Anita with intaglio printing press
Anita Dallar is an American visual artist specializing in printmaking (intaglio, serigraphy) and collage. Her work is influenced by abstract expressionism along with aboriginal and folk art styles. Anita's inspiration is drawn from nature, culture, and personal experiences. A recurring theme in Anita's work is bringing seemingly opposing elements together in aesthetic and harmonious ways. Stark geometric lines adjacent soft organic textures, color combined with black and white, symbolism mixed with abstract expression are all components of her work.
The processes of destruction and reconstruction are inherent aspects of Anita's work. She researches the history of the subject matter, breaks down the imagery, and then reconstructs it into a new form. She says, "I like to experiment with the infinite number of ways imagery can be transformed and transposed and still make sense. While I gravitate towards innovative approaches I do not completely depart from tradition; I find building bridges between the traditional and the unusual a fascinating challenge".
In addition to being a visual artist, Anita has a published collection of poetry entitled 'Dreams & Visions' and is currently working on her next book. All of her monotypes are hand pulled on 100% rag paper and printed with hand-mixed lightfast oil based intaglio inks. All original art includes a signed certificate of authenticity.
